Frequently asked questions

Why do you not offer a free “interest register” or waiting list?

MarryNZ is a serious, one-to-one human matchmaking service. We do not build a large waiting database of people who have only registered but are not yet ready to start the service, and we do not treat registration numbers as a substitute for real applications and matching work. Creating an account and saving an application draft is free; during the current public free promotion, enter free26 when you submit to waive the application-review and consultation fee, while required information, residence evidence, terms acknowledgement and human review still apply. This lets us focus our time on people who are genuinely ready to take part.

Can I apply if I speak only English but am interested in a Chinese-speaking or Chinese-culture-aware partner?

Yes. You do not need to speak Chinese. English-only New Zealanders and overseas adults are within our scope when they genuinely hope to meet someone who speaks Chinese or understands Chinese culture and are willing to respect language differences. Acceptance still depends on local law and our realistic ability to deliver.

Can I look for a same-sex partner?

Yes. The same age, honesty, verification and service standards apply to every applicant. We serve adults seriously seeking marriage or a stable long-term partnership, not casual dating.

What does the application review and consultation fee include?

During the current public free promotion, enter free26 when you submit to waive this application-review and consultation fee (NZ$0 payable). The promotion does not include later membership services; required information, residence evidence, terms acknowledgement and human review still apply. Without the code, the current founding-stage price is NZ$30 and the published standard price after the founding offer is NZ$60. New Zealand and eligible overseas applicants pay the same final total; the New Zealand amount includes GST. The fee covers review of submitted material, creation of a private client record, an initial 30–40 minute consultation and one short follow-up if needed. If a membership agreement is later signed and paid, the amount actually paid is credited in full against the first membership invoice. The complete price, service and refund rules are shown before payment.

Must I upload identity evidence and photos with my first submission?

Identity evidence and personal photos are optional at first, but at least one identity document and three recent personal photos are due two business days before the formal interview. Location evidence is different: a customer requesting either New Zealand or overseas member pricing must upload at least one document supporting ordinary residence before payment or promo confirmation. This is not necessarily a GST return. Examples include a recent government or tax letter, utility or internet bill, bank or credit-card address page, tenancy document, visa or residence record, or a driver licence showing the address. Upload only the page showing your name, address and date, and cover account numbers, balances, transactions, tax numbers and unrelated details.

What is the difference between an Online-verified and Enhanced-verified member?

A paid member is shown as Online-verified after the normal remote identity and document checks. The label may become Enhanced-verified after staff separately verify a verifiable original official criminal record or witness and check identity in person. A label describes checks completed and information reviewed at that time; it does not guarantee future conduct or absolute safety.

Is the review conversation always by video?

Most review conversations and identity checks are by video. We may meet in person when location and arrangements make that practical. A later meeting with a proposed match may also be by video or in person, as both people prefer.

How do you handle language differences?

Before an introduction, the matchmaker considers both people’s actual language ability and willingness to communicate. Speaking only English or only Chinese is not automatically a barrier; both people may knowingly choose translation, language support or a slower communication pace.

Does MarryNZ provide partnership-visa or immigration services?

No. MarryNZ provides matchmaking, relationship-communication coordination and safety support; it does not sell matchmaking as a route to a visa or residence. Matchmakers do not assess eligibility, choose a visa category or strategy, review application material, design relationship evidence or predict outcomes. After a genuine relationship forms, the couple makes its own future-living decisions. Personal immigration questions should be taken to public Immigration New Zealand information, a currently licensed New Zealand immigration adviser or a New Zealand lawyer.

Why are the base prices different for New Zealand and overseas members?

Overseas service usually requires more cross-border communication, location checks, document confirmation and time-zone coordination. New Zealand pricing requires evidence that the member ordinarily lives in New Zealand; overseas pricing requires evidence that the member ordinarily lives outside New Zealand. With the member’s express permission, we may also use a carefully selected overseas partner to verify relevant material and share only what is necessary for that check. Published prices include the standard scope listed for each plan. Any adjustment for a reduced scope or an extra unlisted service is explained and quoted before signing, and the customer may accept or decline.

What should I do about harassment, money requests or suspicious behaviour?

Stop contact immediately, keep the relevant information, and do not transfer money or disclose more private information. Contact [email protected]. For immediate danger, contact New Zealand Police or the local emergency service.
